Review: Summer Infant Baby Touch Digital Color Video Monitor

Well that title is a mouthful! Coming atcha with another review. If you follow my blog, you'll remember that in this post, I mentioned why I prefer a video monitor over an audio monitor. I decided to do a small review/feature overview on the video monitor that I currently own.

Keep on reading to find out more details!

So I made a video on this unit to show you the features first-hand (at the end of this post), it just wouldn't do this monitor justice to take pictures of each of the functions!

I love having this monitor, I've never owned an audio monitor so I can't compare the difference...but I know that if I went to an audio monitor from having a video one it would drive me crazy! I like being able to check in on Greyson without having to tip-toe into his room and it gives me peace of mind while being super convenient...I don't even have to move from the couch to check on him while I'm creeping on Facebook working hard at organizing my computer files.

For more detailed stats, watch the video as I mention what the stats are off the box.

Main features:
  • Large 3.5" touch screen
  • Zoom function
  • Auto color/black and white (night vision) mode
  • Pan up/down, left/right
  • Ability to add on multiple cameras
  • 2-way communication (you can hear baby and talk back to the monitor like an intercom)
  • Portable base for camera so you can watch baby anywhere!
My fave features:
  • Touch screen, auto color/b&w, ability to pan camera, portable monitor base

Why I love this video monitor:
  • Ability to check in on your child without interrupting what you are doing
    • I can be watching TV, cooking, on my computer, cleaning up, etc. and as long as I carry the monitor with me, with the touch of a button I can see exactly what my baby is doing at any given time
  • Portable camera base
    • This means that I can tote my camera around anywhere and set up station to watch my child. Has your baby ever fallen asleep somewhere that is not their crib and you don't want to risk waking them up by moving them back to their crib but you don't want sit there and watch them sleep the entire time? Yeah, that's happened to me so I've brought the camera unit into the room where baby has fallen asleep and I can watch them remotely to make sure they are still safe
  • Pan left/right, up/down feature
    • No this isn't completely necessary to have on a video monitor, but it has come in handy. Greyson doesn't usually wake up in the same position/side of the bed where he fell asleep, he's disappeared off camera a few times while in his crib and I was able to move my camera around until I found him...I did this while in the comfort of my bed!

Also...if your significant other happens to be in the room with baby changing them or something, it's fun to pan around the room and creep on them ;)

Those are the main reasons I love having a video monitor, it's really just for peace of mind wherever you are, and let's face it...I'm lazy, I'd be travelling up and down the stairs a million times a day (although that would make for a great workout!) to check up on Greyson if I didn't have the ability to remotely see what he's doing.

Also, I'm sure I'm not the only parent out there who does this...but have you ever thought you heard your baby fuss or cry only to find that he's sleeping like an angel in his crib? That happens to me almost daily, being able to turn on the monitor to see if he's actually fussing or crying is great, saves time and...my sanity?

Yes I know, video monitors are not absolutely necessary and they do cost a pretty penny, but if you're going to buy a mid-line baby monitor (like those Angelcare movement monitors), save up a few more bucks and splurge on a video monitor...OR, add it to your registry! Who knows what people are willing to buy you or how many people want to chip in and get you something really nice instead of a thousand receiving blankets or burp cloths ;) I added it to my registry more to keep track of items that I really wanted but as it turns out, I was blessed and two of my lovely friends chipped in to buy me the monitor, this monitor is by far one of my favorite nursery must-haves.

Anyways, this post is longer than I anticipated, take a peek at the video if you're interested to see the features on this specific video monitor. I've only used 2 different video monitors but highly recommend this one :)

Happy baby monitoring!
